Ah, where to begin? Everyone who comes here is usually either seeking wisdom... or our freakin' software has them looking for blood. Maybe we can help you, maybe we can't. But we like to send everyone away with a special prize, even though we don't really.
Question: What is IMLocal and how will it envigorate my life?
IMLocal is the latest and greatest add-on program for AOL Instant Messenger. It adds an orange button to the titlebar of your buddy list window giving you instant access to people who actually live near you. Chat with them, send them dirty pictures, and make some new friends!
Infact, we even help you get the ball rolling with your strange new friends via the magic of BuddyPosts. IMLocal makes it so easy to share your thoughts and pictures a retard could use it. Of course, BuddyPosts really shine when it comes to the shared joy of public ridicule and defamation between the friends you already have!
Question: What the heck is a BuddyPost?
Ooh, this is the easy part. It's all about sharing images, short messages, and whatever else we can think up in the space AIM usually uses for advertising. Ungh! High five?
Question: How does this BuddyPost thing work?
Many have come to ask this question, and so few have left without a foul look of puzzled consternation. So we'll take it slow and start from the beginning.
Persons having AOL Instant Messenger and running it in conjunction with IMLocal are enabled to send BuddyPosts via the menu option available from clicking the famed orange button appearing in AIM's titlebar. But to receive a BuddyPost a person must meet two requirements. First, your buddy list must include the person you want to receive from. Second, anyone sending a BuddyPost must include you in their buddy list in order for you to receive it.
Crystal clear, right? Here's the super-dooper simplified HOWTO just in case we lost ya...
- Install AOL Instant Messenger and IMLocal and have your friend do the same.
- Put your friend on your buddy list and have your friend return the favor.
- Create BuddyPosts for your friends and be amazed as it degenerates into a flamewar and/or a series of shockingly disgusting imagery unfit for the eyes of even the hardest internet veterans.
Question: Why not just use the "Find a Buddy" tools that come with AIM?
Have you ever really tried to use that thing? You can't use it to search for people within your location because they require a first name. If finding out about the 32 people named Alice in your state is your idea of a useful tool you've gotta be kidding. The "tools" provided by AIM for finding buddies online really stink for finding people you don't already know.
Question: Who are you people? What's with all the moving colors? Can you help me?
Since when are people expected to answer a million inane questions just because they published some software? We don't have the answers, we're more confused than you are. If your question isn't answered somewhere on this page that probably means you should ask someone who looks smart. You should see us in person, we look like poorly drawn cartoon characters.
Question: How do I send you jokers some e-mail?
For now, that information is classified. Sure, anyone who really cares could probably rustle up our addresses. But that means most of you will leave us alone, which is how we like things while we're fixing bugs and downloading porn. No offense intended really. We just don't have the resources to offer individual support at this time, so beat it kid.
Question: How can I get away with using IMLocal at work without being fired?
From time to time one of your friends may decide to play a joke and upload a BuddyPost with a naughty picture from his or her Mexican vacation. Since your boss probably doesn't appreciate the humor inherent to the depiction of an unnatural sex act performed upon a helpless donkey, your friend could really get you in trouble.
To protect you from this unfortunate situation we set IMLocal to block all BuddyPosts that are Not Safe For Work (NSFW) by default; unblocking is available from the My IMLocal form. But this safeguard relies upon the diligence and good sense of your friends. If they forget to check the Not Safe For Work box while creating a BuddyPost it will show up on your screen in all its donkey-lovin' glory.
We should probably allow you to manually block offensive BuddyPosts from your rotation. How about being able to block all BuddyPosts from buddies you need to talk with but don't trust with your employment? That would be wonderful if we had the time and encouragement to make that happen. The donkey beckons you to make a donation.
Question: What happens after I install IMLocal, where's the action?
Once installed, IMLocal tries to be invisible for the most part. The only way to use it is to start AIM and look for the little orange button in the titlebar. From there you can access the My IMLocal form for options and interact with the locals.
